5 Local Gyms in Midland We Love

We have all heard the statistics about the failure rate of exercise or weight loss resolutions, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Finding a place that you want to show up to is half the battle, and the thing is, just because it’s a place that motivates your best friend or spouse, doesn’t mean it will be the place that inspires you.

Here’s a headstart to find a Midland fitness center that is precisely YOU and you might actually want to show up regularly. Better yet - most of these options offer a free introductory option to allow you to hit the ground running!

Here’s our list of five of our favorite gyms in Midland Texas:

Local Gyms in Midland We Love

HIIT4Fit | HIIT, Strength, Yoga & Spin

Downtown Midland with a view, and dogs too!

Owner Amanda Herrmann has created one of the most aesthetically pleasing facilities in Midland in creating HIIT4Fit. It is spotless, full of natural light, and has retractable walls that create an open-air space on temperate days.

If you are lucky, one of the four-legged mascots may be there to cheer you on. It’s difficult not to be happy while working out here, even when the coach calls out for ten more burpees. The first visit is free, so book your spot on their website and give it a go.

Tip- Keep a lookout for their open to the public, pop-up yoga classes at locations around town, including Tall City Brewery and the Midland Downtown Farmers Market.

Midland YMCA | All The Fitness

Budget and Family Friendly

Not just a gym, but a community resource, the Midland YMCA has the widest selection of classes and fitness options in town as well as some of the most generous hours of operation. It is one of the only gyms in Midland with a pool, and the building has recently gone through a makeover to bring you updated facilities at affordable prices.

In addition to multiple ways to become your healthiest self, they also offer children’s programs and senior activities.

Tip- There is no joining fee during the month of January, so now is the time to register and save money.

J Pilates | Pilates Reformer, Mat and Cardio

Strengthen & Lengthen

If improving your core is one of your goals this year, J Pilates is the place for you. The focus is on Pilates Reformer classes, and while at first glance the equipment may look intimidating, the classes are small so that you receive the one-on-one guidance you need. Owner Jamie Edwards also offers private classes for those who want even more personalized instruction.

Looking for something new to try? “Reform” is a 30 or 50-minute workout that includes classic Pilates movements on the Reformer machine, safe for all levels. Classes are available from 5 AM to 6:30 PM, and if it’s your first time, you can purchase the “First Time Class Pack” of three classes for $15 a month. The website showcases a variety of payment options, with walk-ins being $25 per class. All options at J Pilates are low-impact and modifiable.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for their occasional $5 classes for special events; they are a fun opportunity to try something new and to bring a friend. Afterward, walk on over to Murray’s for an early lunch and enjoy a salad or a salmon bowl—with a side of curly fries, of course!

Motiv Midland | Cycle, Barre, Yoga, & More

It has rhythm.

One of the first boutique studios in Midland, Motiv Midland feels more like a spa than a place to sweat, but sweat you will. They are most well-known for their Body classes, which are similar to barre: using elements of pilates, yoga, and ballet. Though gentle and low-impact, these classes produce results and your thighs and glutes will scream.

They also offer spin, trampoline, and yoga. Drop-in classes are $15 if you want to try a class before committing.

Pro Tip: Follow their social media for pop-up trampoline kids’ classes, it is the cutest.

Crossfit Mix | Crossfit & Personal Training

Inclusive of all shapes and fitness levels.

When asked about favorite local gyms, many of you reached out and suggested Crossfit Mix. The vibe is welcoming, and while you will certainly be pushed, the focus is on your individual goals rather than competition between each other. If you’re nervous or confused about Crossfit, there is a helpful FAQ section on their website. You are given a 7-day free trial before signing up so that you can make sure it’s exactly what you are looking for. Crossfit Mix also offers yoga on Sundays that non-members may also attend.

Pro Tip: A nice touch is the 9:30 Ladies Only class for those who will be more comfortable in that environment.

Clearly, there are a variety of places in Midland where you can become your best self.

Sometimes we lose motivation in our fitness journeys and all the best intentions in the world are overshadowed by work and getting food on the table before we crash into bed at night. Joining a gym keeps you accountable and it builds up your social circle. Midland is always growing so there are always new faces to meet and friends to make. Hopefully, you find a home away from home at a fitness center on this list. As mentioned, some of the introductory classes are free. Try one and see if you find your perfect gym fit!
