Midland Downtown Farmers Market: A Guide

The Midland Downtown Farmers Market is set up every Saturday on N. Colorado Street in Midland to host over 70 vendors who sell their local produce and goods. With a special schedule for the winter months, you can still shop locally year-round using the Midland Downtown Farmers Market.

The Midland Downtown Farmers Market (MDFM) hosts the longest-running farmers market in Midland. You will find no shortage of locally grown produce, farm-fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, and handmade goods-from soaps, to jewelry, and products that are made or produced by each of the vendors. What better way to support locals than by supporting small, local businesses that are making the products themselves.

They are now open every Saturday, all year long, which makes us very excited for checking out the Market when it’s not steaming hot outside and you can enjoy the outside weather for once.

Here’s everything you need to know before going to the farmers market this Saturday:

Shop Local

This market season brings tons of new vendors with new products and new local goods. With over 70+ vendors this year, there are tons of opportunities to find your new local favorite.

The Midland Downtown Farmers Market was established in 2007 and became a nonprofit in 2010. This farmers market is a Texas Certified Farmers Market meaning that everything is made, grown, or produced in Texas.

One thing that we love about this farmers market is their effort to make the entire thing local. This would include, the entire board of the farmers market is made up of other business owners who have their own stands every Saturday.

The Farmers Market’s board is constantly making changes in an effort to make the market a great experience for both the vendors and the customers. There is going to be an increased effort as well to make more kid-friendly options so that there is one more thing for families with children to do in Midland, which is another thing we love about MDFM.

On the side of homemade goods at the Midland Downtown Farmers Market, you’ll find tons of products from soaps and candles to dolls and jewelry. If you’re looking to add a pop of color to your table, a lot of the local farmers bring along their blooms with their produce too.

The Midland Downtown Farmers Market is special as the market is open all year for everyone to shop and support local. While on every Saturday during the spring and summer (April-November) you will find the vendors there, the winter schedule is a little different: Opening hours change from 8:00AM-Noon to 9:00AM-Noon during November-April.

Eat Local

All of your traditional farmers market produce finds are available at the market like seasonal fruits and vegetables. You’ll also find other baked goods for you and even your dog.

Read our post on dog-friendly spots in Midland, TX.

A wide variety of snacks, eats, and treats can be found here each Saturday, and if you’re like us, you’ll be running back each week for salsa refills and more gluten-free cookies.

Some interesting finds that are available at the market would include gluten-free breads, grass-fed beef, homemade peach salsa, and homemade, dairy-free coffee creamers that can be enjoyed on the spot or in the comfort of your home.

Farmers from around the area bring their goods to the market as well, a sort of farm-to-table feel as the ingredients are going straight to your table. Even one of them supplies fresh bouquets from their own gardens and giant sunflowers in the late summer and fall.

Sure you can support these business owners and farmers any day of the week, but the farmers market experience is unmatched on Saturday mornings. Get an exclusive taste of some of the goodies that these bakers and cooks are creating and let them know how amazing their product is.

Enjoy and Support Your Community

If you’re not in the mood to shop or you have already bought something from every single vendor, the Midland Farmers Market is just a great place to be on Saturday mornings.

With live music, tons of dogs, delicious food to smell, and community fellowship, there’s so much to enjoy out at the Museum of the Southwest. The overall atmosphere is very positive and happy as so many people are gathering to enjoy a historical part of Midland but also other Midlanders.

For everyone that is looking for things to do in Midland or ways to meet people here, this is a great way to enjoy your community but also get to know the people in your community.

Getting Started

Sure the shopping part of the market is fun, but for those of you that have the itch for starting your own business, this is an amazing opportunity. Maybe you’ve been sitting on the idea for quite some time or it is brand new, but this is a great starting point.

The weekly booth fees are manageable for a starting business at $30 for your spot and will give you a preview of running shop. Try it out on a week-to-week basis as the MDFM team does a great job at welcoming each and every business.

All of these businesses that you see at the market each week, all had to start at some point. Make the jump and reach out to the board and marketing director of MDFM.
