Join the Bush Family Home for Archaeology Day on Saturday, October 11th from 10 am to 3 pm. October is Texas Archaeology Month, and the Bush Family Home thought they might celebrate with a special twist! For this event, participants will get to see how toys have changed throughout the decades all the way to the 1950s as they dig through time and learn about a concept in archaeology known as stratigraphy! You’ll be in good hands with their educator and on-staff archaeologist, Erin Frigo.
“My background is actually in archaeology and I love teaching kids and the public all about how it works and what we actually study! Fun fact, we don’t study dinosaurs!” says educator, Erin Frigo
Throughout October, the Texas Historical Commission coordinates a statewide celebration and encourages its partners across the state to provide hands-on activities and host commemorative events such as archaeology fairs, demonstrations, presentations, museum exhibits, walking tours, and more. The Bush Family Home is excited to take part in this statewide effort to demonstrate the importance of archaeology when it comes to historical interpretation.
The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is located at 1412 West Ohio St. in Midland. The hours for the home are: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; the last tour begins at 4:15 p.m. The Bush Family Home joined the Texas Historical Commission in 2023 and is one of 41 sites in the state of Texas.
