This installation by local artist Susan Enseñat May will include intriguing automatons, photos, and paintings of all sorts of creatures that fly. The AutoMayTons are interactive contraptions that you crank to cause wings to flap and bodies to rotate, jump, or move, mimicking motions found in nature for creatures like owls, bats, butterflies, dragonflies, and more. These creatures, however, are fantastical and created from unusual objects, paper, wire, and recycled materials with a definite steampunk influence. Paintings are in different mediums, with some being realistic and others fantastical. Photos are of flying creatures, both small and large, mostly from our unique West Texas ecoregion with a few from other parts of the state of Texas or the U.S. There is plenty to enjoy for folks of all ages! On display from July-September.
Artist Reception August 19 from 6 PM-7:30 PM.
