The movie will begin at 8:00 PM with activites starting at 7:00 PM. Activites include:
• Cardboard spurs craft
• Using a lasso
• Stick horse racing
Free snacks and drinks will be available though we encourage guests to bring their own lawn chairs and snacks if they would like.
While living in Midland, George H.W. Bush was the co-founder of Bush-Overby Oil Development Company. By 1955, George H.W. Bush collaborated with Bill & Hugh Liedtke to create Zapata Petroleum, inspired by the 1952 Viva Zapata! movie written by John Steinbeck.
“Showing Viva Zapata! is meant to showcase a classic 1950s movie that connects directly back to George H.W. Bush’s personal and professional life,” said Site Educator Chase Kirby. “It will be fun for the whole family, young or old.”
According to the National Night out website, “National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.” While the Bushes lived in the house on West Ohio Street, they made friends with their neighbors. George W. Bush met many of his lifelong friends up and down Ohio Street. National Night Out is a great way for the neighbors to see what the Bush Family Home State Historic Site is doing and also is a great place for people to meet up with other neighbors.
The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is located at 1412 West Ohio St. in Midland. The hours for the home are: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; the last tour begins at 4:15 p.m. The Bush Family Home joined the Texas Historical Commission in 2023 and is one of 41 sites in the state of Texas.
