Thundering Hooves Earth Day Event

  • Bush Family Home State Historic Site 1412 West Ohio Avenue Midland, TX, 79701 United States (map)

Join the Bush Family Home State Historic Site on April 18th from 1pm to 3pm for a fantastic Earth Day event! The site has partnered with Thundering Hooves celebrating the Year of the Horse. George W. Bush was a big fan of Westerns, horses, and all things cowboy, and a collaboration like this just made sense.

It’s never…just a horse! Spanning from prehistoric cave paintings to contemporary masterpieces that capture their strength, grace, and beauty, horse art symbolizes the evolving bond between humans and these majestic beings. Whether they are galloping in fields or standing at rest, their unique combination of athleticism and gentle spirit makes them, enduringly, captivating, living art. Not only are they beautiful to watch and fun to ride, horses are ecosystem heroes, natural land managers with an important role in our environment. Bring along your imagination and creativity and join the Bush Home for this family friendly, fun filled celebration of Horses.

Participants will - create art, discover how horses are “Ecosystem Heroes”, learn the history of the Native American “Horse Dance” and watch an Award-Winning Short Film, “BUDDY TWO SOCKS”, featuring original music by Gareth Laffely, a Mi'kmaq/Cree award winning composer. Gareth will join the event virtually to talk about how music is a powerful storytelling tool that brings life to films by establishing mood, and deepening audience connection. In conclusion, participants will take home instructions for a unique recycling project. Learn how to tap into your creativity and create “Horse Art” from found objects. Participants will have an opportunity to present and discuss their masterpiece during the “Horse Art” award ceremony on Saturday, May 2, from 1pm to 3pm.

The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is located at 1412 West Ohio St. in Midland.
